Damn good xmas
So, christmas has come and gone once again. This was an especially good year I think, since we didn't make the trip home last year and the whole family being in different towns now it made it that much better to all get together. I also got some great snowboarding in and some good one on one time with Alex up at Whitewater.
Me, Alex, Will and Charlie up top of backside gettin ready to drop in on some epic pow runs. I cant believe how untracked the hill was and how little line ups there were, it was unreal. I don't know if the recession killed the tourism or what but I liked it just fine.
Look how empty that hill looks!
This video is just of us playin around in the powder. Unfortunately the free video editing software I used put that writing on the final video. Damn garbage, I can't wait for my new computer to be ready.
And the actual christmas activities were great I spent a bunch of time acting as jungle gym for my niece Aevery and just hangin with family. Speaking of my niece, I actually have two and this was my first time meeting them. I have not been a great uncle so far but I think I will change that. I had three amazing dinners as well, my mom's roast was perfect, my dad's lamb and Vietnamese pho was terrific and Leanne's classic turkey dinner was....classic. So back to the diet now to get rid of a few pounds I picked up.
Crazy face Trish and Aevery.
My mom got Aevery a princess ballerina outfit and we got here the bling to match.
Me, Trish, Mom, and Tako at Leannes house.
My sis Kelsey with Aevery
My brother in law Nolan with his new baby Emily.
My bro in a period correct helmet custom made for my Moms good friend Peter.

not that cold.....for Edmonton
It wasn't that cold today! Only -4 sweet, so me and Tako went for a good long walk to shoot some video. I have been filming random stuff ever since I got the new camera, I don't have anything to shoot really but I just want to get outside and use this new camera. But yesterday I signed up for a few online stock video libraries that I can upload my footage to and they sell it. Sweet! Finally I can shoot random stuff and actually make use of it and maybe make a few bucks off it. So thats cool, I can't wait to get doing some shooting other than the dog park.
Anyway Tak was still pretty cold after our walk and had some snow beard happenin.

Still effin cold
Well I think it was even colder today. It was a beautiful day bright blue sky with a bit of fog and tons of sun. But it was like -35 so we didn't even go outside.
So I took some pics of the neighbours trees through the window from inside.
And since it was so damn cold I figured I would try to learn how to photoshop alittle better so I put together this little collage of photos I took in cuba last winter.

Sushi time
-31
Well it is -31 out today. I tried to get Tak to wear those little booties so the cold wouldent hurt his feet but he had 3 off before he was out of the parking lot then limped around the whole walk. Oh well I tried. It was too cold to doddel with photography so here are a few pics I took of frost on the windows.

Xmas spirit has infected our home
So Trish got the idea she wanted to build a ginger bread house for chistmas and I had no choice but to go ahead with the idea. I her usuall fashion she doubled the recepie and made a crap load of dough so...... we ended up with 2 houses worth. Dont worry Christy came over to build house number 2. After a rocky start including breaking every panel of the first house they got em together and did some decorating. Enjoy the pics in reverse order ....yay

Cold day at the dog park
Me and Tak went for our usuall walk at the dog park today, we havent gone for the last few days cause it was -28 and Tak doesn't like the cold much. So anyway I thought it was a bit warmer today and figured the little fatty could use some excersise (the big fatty too). I was shooting video with my new camera so no pics but I will eventually post up some video from the new camera once I get an editing setup. But man was Tak not happy with me everytime I pulled out the camera he would come back and nag me to keep moving. I guess it was still -20ish poor little guy.
Oh well here are a couple pics I took a while ago but I was photoshoppin today.

Lazy Dawg
Tako is soo lazy. I shot this for a group project on vimeo. The rules are the video has to be exactly one minute long with no movment, no editing, no music just the original sound. So tak falling asleep seemed like a good idea.

Blizzarding in Deadmonton
So it has been hardcore snowing and blowing for the last 3 days and it's starting to pile up. But you know what I guess its not enough snow for the plow truck to come out. Trish's car has been parked in the driveway for 2 days cause there is no chance it will make it 10 ft on the roads. Luckily my truck rules all snow drifts and is unstoppable, stuck f150s and abandoned Rams are mere obstacles for me. HA HA
Anyway I made a time laps of 170th St last night. This is a 7 lane main road that has yet to see a plow.

Lazy Dayz
So Trish has been off work for 2 days in a row, which is pretty unusual for her so we have been lazing around and doing nothing. Trish beat her new video game and I have been learning lots about my new camera.
Speaking of the new camera I can't upload any footage from it yet because I don't have the necessary software but I'm working on it. But I can tell you the video quality is stunning. I'm totally happy with it so far.
So while Trish has been playing Wii 18hours a day I have been reading scripts and figuring out the logistics of shooting my first theatrical short film. I have decided on a script named "Last Day" it's about an office worker who hates his cubicle life. I am making the film for an online film fest called Betrayal Fest. I am really excited to try a new style of film making, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. It can only be a max of 6 minutes so it shouldn't be to large of an undertaking but I still feel like I don't know what I'm getting into. haha.
I will keep my blog updated as I figure shit out.

New Camera is here
So my new camera arrived in the mail on friday afternoon. After unpacking everything and making a huge mess with packing peanuts (trish was thrilled) I am happpy to say I did not get scammed. The camera is perfect! So I have been fiddeling with it for the last couple days trying to figure out all the bells and whistles on it. Now it's sunny out today so I'm gonna take Tak to the dog park and get some test footage of it. I will post up the results later today.
Excited!
Panasonic HPX-170
Dakine Sequence camera pack
old and new. I didn't realise until I got them together the size difference. They look the same in pictures but the new camera is probably 10% bigger so I had to buy a new backpack cause it woulden't fit in my old one.

Random
So my "new" "editing" computer already crashed due to large amounts of STD's. It had more viruses than a pro ho in Whistler. yay. So anyway Im kind of bummed cause I was just starting to get it set up and working and now I need to re-format again. So anyway I shot a wierd time laps of me trish an Tak at this new dog park we found but I was going to cut it up and do something with it but now I can't so here it is all strait out of the camera.
This park is huge my camera ran out of memory befor we were even half way around the loop.
Oh and my camera sat at customs for the last week, soooo it's on its way to me on the Canadian side of the boarder now hopefully it will get here by Monday next week.

Another time lapse test
Here is another quick time lapse from last night. I'm just learning the new techniques of shooting DSLR time lapses.
On another topic my very patient wife decided that xmas is to far away and wanted toys NOW (stomp feet and make grumpy face) RIGHT NOW!!! so she is the proud new owner of a Nintendo Wii. It's actually quite fun and is a half decent work out playin the sports games. So I'm sure she will be updating face book hourly with whatever new game she is playing and how funny her Mii looks.
And speaking of impatience and toys my new HPX-170 HD video camera is somewhere in the air flying to me right now....or stuck in customs. But it's on it's way so that is sweet, feel free to contact me with filming work so I can pay this thing off.

DSLR time laps
So I have been playin around with my still camera making time lapses. Here are the first couple put together real quick. I am using my Nikon D70 DSLR with a remote intervalometer, I also used a custom made roll cage mount I built to mount the camera on the front bush bar on my truck.
I definitely need to fine tune my settings and learn what works with this.
